Ready to Strength Train Your Body? Here’s How You Start

Strength training is at the core of everything we do here at Body Bloom because it lays the foundation for the physical and mental toughness that can carry you through just about anything. I don’t know about you, but life hasn’t always been easy for me. Growing up, I experienced my fair share of trials and traumas. The discovery of strength training was like an invitation for me to physically manifest all of the mental tenacity it took to overcome my circumstances. That is why I am so passionate about sharing my knowledge with this community. Because I know you are tougher than you think, I know you can do hard things, and I want to push you out of your comfort zone to show you how strong you truly are.

So, where should you start? Certainly, there’s no shortage of inspiration on social media of everyday people doing extraordinary things with their bodies. A quick Instagram search under #strengthtraining will garner over 7 million posts, so it’s pretty clear that this training method has a large fan base. It’s easy to look at some of the exercises people claim to be crazy effective and think, “Wow, that looks epic! I want to be like that!” In truth, however, it’s not the outrageous flashy moves that change your body and build your strength. Sprinkles may provide a wow factor, but without a donut, cake, or sugar cookie to top, they are just food-grade wax used for decoration. Fancy exercises are the sprinkles of the fitness world. They may add to the excitement momentarily, but without the foundational moves on which they are built, they are just empty party tricks. You won’t build your body on a bedrock of sprinkles, so it’s essential to focus your training on creating a solid structure instead. Start lifting.

The universal ingredients for practical strength training are squats, deadlifts, bench press, and pull-ups. You want to change your body composition and gain strength? That’s how you do it. No parlor tricks, no sexy smoke screens, just tried & true moves that challenge and change you from the inside out. If you want to get stronger, you need to work on the same compound lifts. First, you master the moves, and then you can start increasing resistance and building strength from there. Your form is the key to progress and injury prevention, so it’s important to work with an experienced trainer who can help you execute each lift correctly. Don’t do what’s hyped, do what’s effective. Once you’ve conquered form and built strength, feel free to add a few sprinkles. But remember, the sprinkles are often just the glitz and glam. It’s when you stick to the fundamentals that you’ll see results and tap into your inner strength.

If you are ready to take your training to the next level, schedule a coaching consultation to meet your individual goals and learn techniques that you can take with you forever.
