My journey with music began at a very young age. While my peers were busy learning melodies from Sesame Street at three years old, I was changing the dial to Bollywood beats that made me feel alive. I like music that challenges convention and can ignite something deep within you, whether it’s pain you need to process, or power you want to spark.
The playlist I’m going to share with you today isn’t the type you’d find in a commercial gym or walking around the mall. The songs are not necessarily recognized as cool or popular, but they pump me up and make me feel epic. When I press play on this mix, I feel a sense of invincibility that many of us lose when we grow up. It’s the same essence of me in my three-inch platform Spice Girls shoes, or wearing a busticaca singing “Como la Flor” in front of my mirror back in elementary school. An almost child-like strength and confidence comes through from letting the music move me to my core.
I’ll be honest; some of the songs are explicit. I know it won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s okay. If I can introduce you to something new, that’s awesome. But more importantly, I hope that sharing my weird music taste gives you permission to step out of the Top 40 and explore songs that make you feel something. Personally, I love it when I hop into someone’s car, and they give me a disclaimer about their music like, “you might not like this.” My response is always, “Try me!” I really appreciate it when people take the time to investigate their musical preferences because music is meant to stimulate us at the end of the day. Have fun, get weird, and rock out to whatever makes you feel like you can crush the day. Here’s my heart-pumping playlist. I hope you enjoy it! And if you create your own, feel free to share it in the comments below. We always welcome more strange tunes over here!
