Elizabeth’s Fall Favorites

I think we all have seasons we naturally thrive in. When the air is crisp and the leaves change, I come alive. Fall reminds me of childhood excitement—going back to school and seeing all of your friends again. I used to live two blocks away from a football field and I always enjoyed listening to the brass instruments and cheering crowd from my window.

Since we are knee-deep in this glorious season, I thought it’d be fun to share some of the features I love about this time of the year, so let’s dive in!

Halloween

Fake blood, Dracula teeth, funny costumes, and candy bars…what’s not to love? Halloween is my favorite holiday, so naturally, it’s at the top of my list for why I love autumn. I was the kid who didn’t get the memo that Halloween was for scantily clad attire and showed up dressed in full horror gear while the rest of the girls touted looks like “sexy nurse” in middle school, and I don’t regret it one bit. To me, Halloween is pure fun, filled with thrills, fright, laughter, and one too many candy bars.

Cozy Sweaters

Our Body Bloom cropped hoodie sweater is one of my fall staples. It’s lightweight, so comfortable, and perfect for layering. I wear it while I’m training, at the grocery store, exploring the city, and basically everywhere else.

Horror Movies

There’s nothing quite like watching a scene you’ve seen a million times but still feeling your heart pounding in your chest with anticipation. Currently, I’m obsessed with Alfred Hitchcock classics, Psycho and Rebecca. You’re probably familiar with Pyscho but Rebecca is sensational as well. It is full of complex dialogue and a greater existential discussion that you don’t find in other films. If you haven’t seen it and love a good thriller, I highly recommend adding it to your watch list this season.

Spice

Look, I don’t mind pumpkin spice, but there are so many other spiced flavors that feel much more unique to this time of the year to me than pumpkin. One of my favorites is a German mulled wine called Glühwein. It is traditionally served in winter, but when the temperature dips in autumn, I find myself eager to sip on the mulled spices’ delicious flavors.

Nighttime Cruising

Do you notice that the sky feels different during autumn? It gets dark earlier, but it also feels like the darkness is deeper, and the stars are more prominent. I consider it the perfect backdrop for a nighttime cruise. There’s nothing like hopping in the car with your playlist, some chilly air, and a sense of adventure.

I hope this list inspires you to lean into the season and embrace all of its goodness. 2020 is almost over, and it has been a hell of a year, but we can still find ways to appreciate and enjoy our lives. Throw on a hoodie and take a drive! Get dressed up in a crazy costume and stream Hitchcock all night. Do whatever it is that brings you joy during this time of the year, even if you have to slightly modify it for the current world circumstances.
